Perinatal Services

BEE’s Perinatal Services support pregnant and postpartum families while strengthening a community-based birthworker workforce rooted in the knowledge, culture, and lived experiences of the communities we serve.

As South Carolina’s first National Perinatal Safe Spot, BEE provides a community-based place where pregnant and postpartum families can access support outside of traditional medical settings. Services include prenatal, labor, and postpartum doula care; childbirth education; breastfeeding and lactation support; basic-needs and crisis assistance; peer support; maternal health advocacy; and connections to additional community resources.

Our work also invests directly in the birthworker workforce. BEE has trained community members as prenatal, labor, and postpartum doulas and helps birthworkers access additional certifications, professional development, mentorship, liability coverage, and opportunities for paid community-based practice.

Through our partnership with the Southern BEE Alliance Cooperative, we are also working to strengthen the economic stability, leadership, and collective power of birth and care workers.
