Farm Day Play & Read

Join us for a special Play & Read Day for young children! We are delighted to welcome a special guest: children’s author Gwendolyn Wallace.
During this delightful two-hour event, she’ll read from (and sign) her book Joy Takes Root, which won the Black Caucus American Library Association’s Best of the Best honor in 2023. The book tells the story of Joy’s first summer in her grandmother’s Moncks Corner garden. In the midst of okra, spinach, and strawberries, Grammy teaches Joy that plants have many uses. Herbs, for example, can be turned into medicine. Publishers Weekly called it “moving.”
Also on offer: a planting activity guided by the author for children to take home. Space is limited to 30 families, so sign up now! One (free) ticket per family.
